The BT2 is the all-mahogany version of the Baby Taylor, a small dreadnought-shaped acoustic built at three-quarter size. It has a solid mahogany top over a two-piece layered sapele back and sides, with matte finish on the top, back, sides, neck and peghead. The slim C-shaped neck and 22-3/4" scale length are meant to make fretting chords easier for young or new players and for adults with smaller hands.

Construction includes a mahogany or maple neck, an ebony or eucalyptus fretboard depending on availability, a 15" fretboard radius with 4mm dot inlays, an ebony bridge, a Nubone nut and a Micarta saddle. Tuners are die-cast chrome, and the guitar ships strung with D'Addario XS coated phosphor bronze light strings (.012-.053).

The guitar has no onboard electronics and no cutaway, so it is a purely acoustic instrument; a pickup-equipped version is sold separately as the BT2e. It is built for steel strings only and is made in the maker's factory in Tecate, Mexico. A soft gig bag is supplied for transport.
