DA-40

The DA-40 is a 3U rack-mountable DAT recorder derived from the DA-20mkII. It adds selectable SCMS status writing, so the engineer can choose which copy-protection code is recorded depending on where the tape is headed. Two locate points allow direct cueing even where no track ID exists, and a loop play function repeats the section between them.

For live and on-air work, a single play function cues one track and then pauses by itself at the next cue, so the machine does not roll into the following item. Track names can be read from and written to the DAT subcodes and are shown on the text display, which helps tell apart similar mixes such as regional variants of the same spot. A large jog shuttle wheel, record mute and a margin counter with reset are also provided.

Analog connections are balanced XLR and unbalanced RCA, with a calibrated input switch that bypasses the input level controls and attenuation on the XLR outputs. Digital I/O is AES/EBU and S/PDIF coaxial. A parallel port handles remotes and tallies from automation or broadcast consoles, with two pins providing serial control input. The RC-D45 wired remote is optional.
