VP89

The VP89 is a modular shotgun microphone built around a common preamplifier body that accepts three barrel and cartridge lengths: long, medium and short. The long version has an extremely narrow pickup angle for distant sources such as sports, ENG, wildlife and field recording. The medium version gives a wider aperture with a narrow pickup angle, suited to audience response, talk shows and live concerts. The short version has the widest aperture and a wide pickup angle for near-field targets, camera mounting and discreet placement.

The redesigned preamplifier is aimed at improved RF immunity, and the microphone has an internal low-frequency roll-off plus a recessed low-cut filter switch for extra control. The footprint is smaller than before, and the construction is described as rugged for road use. All three lengths are noted for off-axis rejection quality.

Connection is via XLR, and XLR-to-XLR cabling is offered as an accessory. A carrying case, foam windscreen, clip and thread adapter are supplied. Optional Rycote-made accessories include suspension windshield kits, slide-on fur windshields, boom, pistol-grip, hot-shoe and camera-side mounts.
