PreComp

The PreComp is a channel strip for the 500 series rack format that places a mic preamp and a compressor in one module. The aim is to simplify gain stage management during recording: set the mic level, then add compression to level the signal and keep it from clipping.
The preamp uses AccuState gain control, which is described as giving low-noise operation. The compressor is a full-function dynamics section. Each of the two processors can be accessed separately, so either one can be used on its own within a signal chain.
Typical uses include voice-over work in post production, vocal tracking, on-air broadcast front ends and live recording. An Omniport 1/4" TRS insert allows an external processor, such as a parametric EQ, to be added to the signal chain. In live recording it can be paired with a Workhorse frame, using the 1/4" TRS output to feed a recorder and the XLR output to feed the PA. The manufacturer lists the model as discontinued and no longer shipping, with a user guide and smart sheet provided for owners.
