The Launchkey 25 [MK3] is a compact controller with a 25-note velocity-sensitive keybed, 16 RGB backlit velocity-sensitive pads, eight rotary knobs, pitch and modulation wheels and a 16x2 character screen. Transport, track navigation, Capture MIDI, quantise, click, undo, scene launch and device select/lock buttons give direct access to DAW functions.
Playing aids include Scale Mode, which maps played keys and pads to a chosen scale, three chord modes that trigger chords from single notes, and an arpeggiator. Strum Mode was added with firmware v1.1. Integration is deepest with Ableton Live (version 10 or later), with full integration for Logic, Cubase and Reason, and HUI-based operation with Studio One and Pro Tools. It also works as a standard MIDI controller.
The keyboard connects over USB-B and is bus powered. A full-size five-pin MIDI output and a sustain pedal jack let it drive external hardware, and it can run standalone without a computer. Four Custom Modes, set up in Novation Components, map the knobs and pads to software or hardware parameters. A software bundle including Ableton Live Lite is supplied.
