Reference 2 Meta is a passive, closed-box, three-way speaker built as a centre channel for home cinema and music systems, and it can also be used as a left, centre or right speaker. It is handbuilt in Maidstone, UK, and each pair can be matched within 0.5 dB to a laboratory reference standard.
Its Uni-Q array combines a 25 mm aluminium dome tweeter with Metamaterial Absorption Technology and a 125 mm aluminium midrange cone, and is flanked by two 165 mm aluminium bass drivers. The maze-like absorber takes up 99% of the unwanted sound radiated from the rear of the tweeter. Shadow Flare reduces cabinet diffraction, while a computer-modelled cabinet with Constrained Layer Damping limits vibration. Flexible Port Technology allows the speaker to be tuned to the room.
As a passive speaker it connects to an external amplifier, with 50 to 300 W recommended. The cabinet measures 205 x 630 x 335 mm and weighs 22.8 kg. The listed finish is Satin Walnut/Silver.
