The 1234A is a smart active studio monitor built as a main monitor for large control rooms. It uses two 305 mm bass drivers, a 125 mm midrange cone and a 25 mm metal dome treble driver in a reflex-ported MDF enclosure. Each driver has its own Class D amplifier channel, fed by an active crossover. The amplifiers sit in a separate 3U rack-mounted RAM-XL unit supplied with the monitor.
A Directivity Control Waveguide shapes the dispersion to give a wide, stable listening area, so more than one person can monitor from a distance. Rated frequency accuracy is ±2 dB from 34 Hz to 20 kHz, with a maximum short-term output of at least 125 dB SPL. Driver protection circuitry limits the level when signals are too high, and Intelligent Signal Sensing drops the monitor into a low-power sleep state when no signal is present.
Signal connections are an analog XLR input and an AES/EBU digital XLR input with a digital output/thru. Two RJ45 ports link the monitor to the GLM network. Calibration through GLM needs the free GLM software plus either a 9320A SAM Reference Controller or a GLM Calibration Kit, both sold separately.
