The Speaker Cranker is built to add distortion rather than act as a clean boost. It is described as working like an additional preamp tube in an amplifier: single notes pick up harmonics and a tube-like sag, power chords become thicker and more ragged, and complex chords stay distinct. The circuit is meant to leave the low end, mids and top end as they were, so the pedal does not add shimmer or sparkle.
There is one control, More, which sets the amount of dirt. The pedal is true bypass and uses electronic relay-based switching, so no audio passes when it has no power. The input impedance is 2.2 MΩ and the output impedance is below 10 kΩ.
Power comes from a 9 V battery or a 9 V DC supply with a 2.1 mm negative-centre barrel, drawing 10 mA. The maker recommends pedal-specific, transformer-isolated supplies and warns against running it at higher voltages. The enclosure measures 121 x 64 x 57 mm including the knobs.
