Beschrijving

The King MKII is a desktop headphone amplifier created for Audeze by circuit designer Bascom King. It uses a two-stage hybrid topology: a pair of twin-triode E88CC input tubes, a differential P-MOSFET driver stage and MOSFET output devices. NPN MOSFETs are used so that devices can be matched closely, and the amplifier is rated at 6 W of music power.

The design places the left and right channels on separate circuit boards, each with its own voltage regulators and a perforated magnetic shield. An oversized toroidal transformer is molded in epoxy and shielded. A DC servo between the input and output stages holds DC offset near zero, and a symmetrical regulated supply provides ±16 V DC to the output devices. No capacitors sit in the signal path.

The chassis is anodized, with 1/2" side panels, 1/4" top and bottom panels and a 5/8" clear-coated front panel. Active components and the AC input are enclosed in a Faraday-cage shield to reduce RFI. Front-panel meters are calibrated to show SPL and power levels when used with the LCD-4. The unit is built in California.
