The SGM 12 is a floor-standing two-way loudspeaker built around a 12-inch Dual Concentric driver, in which the woofer and tweeter share one axis to give point-source imaging and phase coherence. The design aims for a neutral, uncoloured presentation with a wide listening area, so the sound holds up away from the central seat. It descends from the Monitor GOLD studio speaker, and the cabinet follows that classic styling.
A two-way energy control on the front baffle lets the listener make small tonal adjustments to suit the room. The drive unit uses a ferrite magnet system with copper demodulation rings and a high-flux magnetic circuit. Front-firing bass ports reduce the sensitivity to nearby walls and corners, so the speakers can sit close to a wall or be recessed into one.
The cabinet is dense and rigid to help control low frequencies, and is finished in American walnut with a gold-anodized aluminium adjustment panel. The speaker is aimed at home listening to music and film.
