The SM57 is a dynamic microphone with a contoured frequency response and a presence rise that helps instruments stand out in a mix. Its uniform cardioid pickup pattern concentrates on the sound source it is pointed at and rejects sound arriving from the rear, which reduces background noise.
It is designed to handle the high sound pressure produced by amplifiers and drums without distortion. A pneumatic shock-mount system inside the microphone reduces handling noise, and the construction is intended to withstand heavy use, including knocks from drumsticks or kick drum hits.
Typical uses are amplified or acoustic instruments such as guitar amps, bass amps, saxophone, trumpet, and drums, and it can also pick up vocals. The package includes an A25D swivel stand adapter and a storage bag. A DMK57-52 drum microphone kit is listed as a bundle option.
