The GW-8 is a 61-key workstation combining a 128-voice sound engine, derived from the Fantom-X Series, with an arranger that builds backing tracks from styles. Each style provides four intros, four main patterns, four endings and four fill-ins, so arrangements can be shaped live. The style library leans toward Latin American genres, with additional ethnic sounds and styles from other regions.
A 16-track recorder stores performances, and the USB Memory Player plays MP3, WAV, AIFF and SMF files directly from a USB flash drive. A Center Cancel function reduces lead vocals on audio files for sing-along or practice use. Hands-on controls include a D BEAM controller, an Analog Modify knob, a pitch bend/modulation lever and a Style Select button, with a 240 x 64 dot graphic display.
It connects through stereo outputs, an external input, a headphone jack, MIDI In/Out, pedal jacks and two USB ports: one to a computer (USB MIDI) and one for USB memory. Style Converter and Playlist Editor software for Windows are included. Version 2.0 of the system software adds Style Composer, extra preset styles, Note to Arranger control, multi-track rhythm creation and SMF editing.
