COBALT8X is an 8-voice virtual-analogue keyboard synthesiser with a 61-note FATAR keybed and channel aftertouch. It has 40 oscillator algorithms, 31 filter types, a step/real-time sequencer and arpeggiator, and 3 FX slots, and it is aimed at players, producers and sound designers.

COBALT8X is a keyboard synthesiser built on an extended virtual-analogue engine. It has 8 polyphonic voices and 64 oscillators, arranged as two independent oscillator groups. Each group offers 40 algorithms, including sync, ring modulation, FM, waveform morphing and filtered noise. The filter section provides 31 resonant types, from morphable state-variable and ladder designs to notch, phaser and peaking models.
Modulation comes from three envelopes (amp, mod, filter), three audio-rate LFOs with tempo sync, and a modulation matrix with 8 assignable slots plus 4 fixed routings. A 512-note real-time sequencer with four animation lanes, a 64-step polyphonic step sequencer and a 32-step arpeggiator handle patterns. Three stereo FX slots draw on 26 effect algorithms. Memory holds 500 patches (300 factory), 100 sequences and 100 FX presets.
The instrument has a FATAR 61-key keyboard, 29 encoders, 24 buttons and a joystick, and it supports MPE controllers. It connects through line outputs, a headphone output, MIDI DIN, class-compliant USB MIDI, analogue clock sync and pedal inputs. The free MODALapp editor runs standalone and as VST3 and AU. Two units can be poly-chained for 16 voices.
