The iRig Keys 2 is a 37-key controller with velocity-sensitive mini-keys, pitch bend and modulation wheels, an octave up/down pair, program up/down buttons, a volume control for the headphone output and a data push encoder. Four assignable knobs (4+4 layout) and four configurable setups can be stored and recalled with the SET button, and an Edit mode covers transposition, touch sensitivity, MIDI channel and knob assignments.
It connects to a host over USB and ships with Lightning, USB-C and USB-A cables, so it works with iPhone, iPad, Mac/PC and most Android devices (Android needs a micro-USB to OTG cable, sold separately). A stereo headphone output lets users monitor without the device speaker. 2.5 mm MIDI IN and OUT jacks, with a MIDI adaptor included, allow it to drive hardware synths and drum machines, and it acts as a MIDI interface for other gear when connected to a computer or mobile device.
Power comes from the host device, a USB power supply or a USB battery pack, so it can also run stand-alone. The software bundle includes SampleTank 4 SE for Mac/PC plus one bonus title from a selected list, and it unlocks free mobile apps such as SampleTank FREE.
