The InSpire 5G2 combines a semi-weighted, velocity-sensitive keyboard with a full DAW control surface. It has 8+1 assignable faders, 8 dual-function encoders (push and turn), 12 velocity-sensitive trigger pads, an X/Y touchpad, a pitch/modulation joystick, a jog wheel, 62 assignable buttons and six illuminated transport keys. A large backlit LCD shows channel names and control values.
A matrix technology called VirtualPort provides four independent USB outputs, so keys, pads and controls can be assigned to run several programs at the same time. Mackie Control is built in for Cubase, Nuendo, Samplitude, Logic Pro and Ableton Live, and the HUI protocol covers Pro Tools. A MIDI Learn mode lets users map other DAWs such as Sonar. Hold, Pad Roll and Key Roll buttons work with the touchpad, and several velocity curves can be chosen for keys and pads.
The unit connects over USB 2.0 high speed and is class-compliant. It also has 1 in / 1 out 16-channel MIDI, expression and sustain pedal inputs, and two expansion slots: one for a Synth series module card and one for a Satellite series USB audio interface card. Firmware is updated over USB with the iMap software. The casing is aluminum and metal with a Kensington lock port, and it includes template labels for popular DAWs.
