The BMX is a drum machine built around an 8/12-bit sampling engine with 8 DACs and variable sample rate. It ships with 117 drum sounds, and a line input allows recording and storing your own samples. Each voice can be shaped with a Wave Designer offering separate attack and sustain controls, and a dual-mode filter switches between low-pass and high-pass with cutoff and resonance controls. Filter sweeps can be recorded into the sequencer and edited in the step editor.
The 64-step sequencer stores up to 192 patterns and 8 songs, with continuously variable swing. Live tools cover step repeat, note repeat, real-time triggering, live step overdubs, an autofill function and cueing the next song from memory without stopping playback. Parameter chaining lets each parameter, such as tempo, swing, flam, probability, mutes/solos, FX bus assignment and filter modes, act globally or change with the pattern or song.
For connections, there are stereo outputs, a headphone output, 8 independent analog outputs for multitrack recording or external processing, and 3 trigger outputs for external synths and sequencers. MIDI In, Out and Thru are provided on 5-pin DIN and over USB, which also allows DAW sync and triggering of individual sounds. The unit sends and receives clock.
