The AK380 is a portable high-resolution music player built around two AKM AK4490 DACs. Its circuitry handles 32-bit data natively, so PCM files up to 32-bit/384kHz and DSD256 (11.2MHz) play without down-sampling. A dedicated audio DSP drives a 20-band parametric equalizer with 0.01dB steps and Q adjustment. The EQ works with PCM from 8kHz to 192kHz at 8, 16 and 24 bits, but not with DSD or 32-bit audio. A 200 femtosecond VCXO reference clock keeps jitter low.
The body is aircraft-grade duralumin and has a 4-inch WVGA touchscreen. The home button is a pressure-sensitive metal capacitive touch pad. The player has 256GB of built-in NAND storage and one microSD slot for cards up to 256GB. A 3,400mAh Li-Polymer battery powers it, and firmware updates arrive over the air via Wi-Fi.
Outputs are a 3.5mm headphone jack, a 3.5mm optical output and a 2.5mm balanced output. The balanced output only supports 4-pole connectors. A Micro-B USB port handles charging and data transfer to Windows and Mac computers. The AK Connect app, which is DLNA-based, is available for phones and tablets. The player can also be expanded with the AK380 Amp, the AK380 Cradle and a CD ripper accessory.
